Situational Awareness - Interpersonal Course
This class will provide a distinctive training experience; it is designed around civilian-level enhancement of observation skills. It is part of a series of courses which are focused on situational awareness, drawing from both classic and contemporary research on human behavior.
The training includes classroom exercises, role-playing, scenario evaluations, and opportunities to discuss and share real-life experiences. The Interpersonal Domain serves as the foundation for Situational Awareness, making it an excellent starting point since the topics are relatable to everyday life.
This class will examine six behavior domains but will focus heavily on kinesics and proxemics in the context of interpersonal communication and threat behavior. Kinesics refers to the interpretation of body movements—including facial expressions, gestures, and posture—as nonverbal communication. Proxemics focuses on how individuals use and perceive physical space to convey messages, with varying distances indicating levels of intimacy, social connection, dominance, or submissiveness.
